Job Overview
The Laboratory Technician supports offshore operations by performing routine laboratory testing of production and process fluids such as crude oil, produced water, injection water, and process chemicals. The role ensures consistent product quality and compliance with environmental regulations through accurate analysis and reporting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collect and analyze samples of crude oil, produced water, gas, injection water, and other process fluids following standard operating procedures.
- Perform routine tests including BS&W (basic sediment and water), oil-in-water content, pH, salinity, turbidity, specific gravity, and viscosity.
- Support the Laboratory Chemist in monitoring and adjusting chemical treatment programs (e.g., corrosion inhibitors, demulsifiers, scale inhibitors).
- Operate, maintain, and calibrate laboratory instruments such as centrifuges, spectrophotometers, titration units, and oil-in-water analyzers.
- Record and report test results accurately and in a timely manner to the operations team.
- Assist in inventory management of laboratory supplies and chemicals
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment, following HSE and QA/QC standards.
- Participate in offshore safety meetings, drills, and toolbox talks.
- Provide basic support during process upsets by conducting additional sampling and analysis as needed.
Requirements:
- Technical diploma or certificate in Chemistry, Chemical Technology, or related field.
- 2–4 years of laboratory experience, preferably in oil & gas or industrial process environments.
- Understanding of sampling techniques, laboratory safety, and quality control procedures.
- Offshore certifications (e.g., BOSIET, HUET, OGUK Medical) or willingness to obtain.
- Familiarity with offshore operations and FPSO production systems (preferred).
- Attention to detail, good communication skills, and ability to work independently in a remote offshore environment.
