Position Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Safety System / PLC Engineer to support control system operations, programming, and maintenance of safety systems within a high-hazard industrial environment. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS), PLC-based automation, and a strong working knowledge of industry standards such as ISA 84 / IEC 61511.
This engineer will play a critical role in supporting safety and reliability across all control systems, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, managing system integrity, and providing technical expertise during Turnarounds (TARs), commissioning, and ongoing operations.
Key Responsibilities:

Design, implement, and maintain Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) in compliance with ISA/IEC standards

Program, configure, and troubleshoot Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), including Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Triconex, or Yokogawa systems

Support sitewide Functional Safety Lifecycle requirements: SIF design, SIL verification, loop testing, validation, and documentation

Conduct site acceptance testing (SAT), commissioning support, and ongoing troubleshooting of safety and control systems

Collaborate with operations, instrumentation, maintenance, and HSE teams to ensure system performance, safety, and reliability
-
Maintain system backups, logic documentation, and change management records

Lead or support root cause analysis for safety-related instrumentation or control failures

Stay current with evolving industry standards and best practices related to safety systems and process automation
Qualifications:
-
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation, Automation, or related field (or equivalent industry experience)

5–10 years of experience with PLCs and Safety Instrumented Systems in refinery, chemical, or process plant environments

Strong understanding of IEC 61511 / ISA 84 safety standards

Proficiency in PLC programming and HMI development (Allen-Bradley, Triconex, Siemens, or Yokogawa)

Experience with loop checks, commissioning, and start-up support

Familiarity with ERP systems (SAP is a plus) and Microsoft Office Suite

Excellent problem-solving, communication, and cross-functional coordination skills
-
Functional Safety certification (e.g., CFSE, CFSP) is a plus
