CORROSION ENGINEER
 
Location: Aberdeen, UK
Contract duration: 12 months / PAYE
Schedule: Full-time (Monday-Friday)
  
On behalf of our customers, we are currently recruiting for a Corrosion Engineer to be placed in Aberdeen and would be on a 12 months’ renewable contract with the possibility of extension.

Job profile summary
The Corrosion Engineer is responsible for safeguarding the integrity of Oil & Gas assets by managing corrosion across their lifecycle. This involves developing and implementing corrosion control strategies, analyzing data to identify and address threats, and overseeing the corrosion monitoring program. The individual will also lead key meetings, manages actions, and ensures timely assessments. They also provide technical expertise on materials and corrosion, collaborating with other disciplines to deliver effective integrity management programs.
 
Responsibilities 
  • Ensure compliance with the corrosion management standard, maintains up-to-date asset registers, update risk-based inspections, and analyzes asset condition data to identify and address integrity threats
  • Lead AICM meetings, manages AIM actions, analyzes anomalies and communicates risk escalations, and oversees the corrosion monitoring program, including third-party work and failure investigations
  • Chair and lead the Asset Integrity Corrosion Management (AICM) meeting, manages actions resulting from these meetings, and ensures timely assessments of pressure systems and pipelines
  • Develop and maintain corporate corrosion control strategies, including inspection and monitoring activities
  • Provide technical expertise on materials and corrosion for relevant assets, and set related strategies
  • Maintain and update asset group Risk-Based Assessments (RBA) for pressure systems and pipelines
  • Review inspection strategies to ensure they address corrosion concerns and recommend solutions for integrity threats
  • Maintain asset Corrosion Control Schemes and Mitigation Policies
  • Ensure RBI is up to date for each asset, capturing operational, process, production chemistry, inspection, and monitoring data
  • Evaluate asset condition, inspection data, and process information to identify and address integrity threats
  • Analyze anomalies, ensure the anomaly database is current, and manage "Monitor" anomalies for effective corrosion trending
  • Provide technical assessments and interpretations of corrosion data, recommending changes to monitoring programs as needed
  • Oversee the delivery of annual and periodic corrosion reports for assets
  • Maintain the corrosion status of systems, identify trends from surveys, and assign corrective actions to relevant disciplines
  • Contribute to the development of annual integrity summary reports for asset groups
  • Track and ensure completion of all Asset Integrity Corrosion Management (AICM) actions
  • Interface with Production Chemistry regarding chemical selection, testing, and monitoring for corrosion management
  • Provide equipment protection expertise against corrosion, including coating specifications and cathodic protection
  • Collaborate with other disciplines (pressure systems, operations, external service providers) on integrity management programs
  • Undertake regular offshore/site visits to verify integrity and adherence to standards
  • Support regulatory inspections and corporate audits
  • Perform detailed corrosion and materials studies as required
  • Undertake or coordinate failure investigations related to material and corrosion
  • Provide corrosion expertise and collaborate with other technical disciplines (engineering, maintenance, operations)
  • Proactively contribute to reviews of corrosion management information and KPIs To follow quality plan & lead the identification and implementation of suitable quality controls

  • Arrange and track to completion quality activities such as audits, inspections and NCRs
  • Feedback on any quality lessons for future work
  • Engage with key vendors/suppliers to assess how they are managing quality on UKBU’s behalf.

Skills / Qualifications 
  • Possesses a strong understanding of corrosion mechanisms, risk assessment, and mitigation strategies, with demonstrable experience in chemical management and failure investigations
  • Demonstrates a strong commitment to process safety and prevention of major accident hazards (MAH), with a focus on maintaining asset integrity
  • Possesses a sound education in metallurgy (or related subject) with a focus on materials and welding engineering, although this knowledge is advantageous and not essential
  • Holds experience managing corrosion in onshore and offshore assets, with field experience being beneficial
  • Maintains awareness of relevant legislation and industry guidelines for corrosion management
  • Awareness and competence in Quality Assurance and Quality Control preferred.
    Educational Qualification and Certifications
  • Degree in Corrosion Science, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline
  • Relevant certification to enable offshore site visits
  • Professional Membership to related Institution is preferred.
 
OBS: The role may require travelling offshore for certain business requirements.
