Role Responsibilities
The role requires experience in delivering engineering projects across all phases, from preliminary and detailed design through to execution, depending on client needs. The successful candidate should have a proven track record in leading and delivering design work, including peer reviews, particularly on brownfield and expansion projects. This dual role involves both leading a discipline team and actively participating in engineering design. This may include responsibilities but not limited to:
  • Deliver engineering services that meet the clients, and regulatory requirements, ensuring safe and sustainable design.
  • Lead and verify discipline-specific engineering deliverables, including calculations, drawings, and documentation, while adhering to standardised checking procedures.
  • Focus on safety throughout the project lifecycle, participating in Safety in Design assessments, project reviews, and HAZIDs/HAZOPs.
  • Manage engineering assignments with the workshare team, ensuring technical integrity and effective coordination.
  • Prepare and review engineering estimates, scope requirements, and project schedules, ensuring realistic delivery sequences and resource allocation.
  • Maintain effective communication and relationships within the team, with clients, and other stakeholders, providing technical direction as needed.
  • In a lead role, manage the sequence of engineering tasks, ensure technical integrity, and oversee the delivery of discipline-specific design within schedule and budget.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines, manage resources, and address technical issues, ensuring quality and consistency in deliverables.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Qualifications: Australian Bachelor’s in Electrical or Power Engineering, plus postgraduate or management qualifications are preferred. Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status, TUV Functional Safety Certification, and Hazardous Area Certification are beneficial.
  • Experience: Significant experience in brownfield capital projects within the mining industry is essential. Must have worked through all phases of engineering projects, from feasibility to detailed design and execution.
  • Skills:
  • Expertise in HV and LV systems, electrical calculations, power distribution, and design studies.
  • Experience with creating design drawings, site scoping, condition assessments, construction, and commissioning.
  • Strong understanding of constructability, maintainability, and operability aspects, including preparing ITPs, datasheets, specifications, and procurement scopes.
  • Proficient in equipment inspections, FATs, SATs, electrical estimates, and execution schedules.
  • Knowledge of control systems, instrumentation, and shutdown planning.
  • Management: Proven ability to plan, set goals, manage resources, and oversee large portfolios with over 20 discipline personnel. Strong skills in negotiating, problem-solving, and adapting to change.
  • Leadership: Experience leading multi-disciplinary teams, working on various projects, and supporting team performance and development.
