Our company is an advanced technological and engineering platform for the design, construction and operation of safe and sustainable complex infrastructure and plants.
We are currently looking for a Paralegal to join the legal team based in Kingston. 

As a legal advisor, you will play a key role in reducing legal risks and ensuring the compliance of the relevant business lines and operating companies. You will provide specialised legal guidance, support dispute resolution and actively contribute to the company's strategic decision-making processes. Your responsibilities will span multiple jurisdictions, including the UK, APAC and North America, offering a unique opportunity to get involved in international legal issues.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Legal Risk Management: Proactively identify, assess, and mitigate legal risks across various business operations and projects.
  • Contractual and Commercial Law: Provide comprehensive legal support in the drafting, review, and negotiation of contracts, agreements, and other legal documents.
  • Dispute Resolution: Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external counsel to resolve disputes effectively, whether through arbitration, negotiation, mediation, or litigation, including investigating facts and drawing up negotiation documents and the settlement of disputes
  • Legal Research & Analysis: Conduct thorough research on complex legal issues, staying abreast of legal developments in relevant jurisdictions, and providing well-informed advice to the business, based on an analysis of the sources of statutes, judicial precedents, legal articles, treaties, constitutions and codes of law, etc.
  • Compliance & Governance: Ensure adherence to company policies, industry regulations, and local laws across all business units and operating companies.
  • Knowledge Management and Reporting: Maintain and enhance the legal department's knowledge base, ensuring easy access to relevant legal information and best practices.
  • External Counsel Management: Oversee the engagement and performance of external legal firms, ensuring cost-effective and efficient legal services.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships across different levels of the organization
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Business level proficiency in a foreign language (French, German, Norwegian or Chinese) is also an advantage
     
Skills:
  • Degree in law
  • Professional qualification in law (SQE, LPC, BVC or the equivalent)
  • Experience within the engineering industry (offshore is preferred but not essential)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
  • Business level proficiency in a foreign language (French, German, Norwegian or Chinese) is an added advantage
