We are glad to be retained by a leader in carbon black manufacturing in India and a strong global player with a customer base in 50+ countries worldwide. The company currently has a carbon black production capacity of 770,000 MT per annum, generating 110 MW of green power. The company has a wide portfolio of specialty carbon black grades with more than 40 grades including a recently launched grade for lithium-ion batteries which plays the role of electrode conductive additive. Our products are the result of a strong innovation-orientated strategy, supported by 2 R&D facilities, one in India and one in Belgium (Ghislenghien). Due to the recent growth of the carbon black–conductive team, the company is looking for a (Junior) Scientist (on-site) in Ghislenghien.
 
Job Summary:
As an R&D (junior) scientist, you will work on developing and evaluating carbon additives and other materials for energy storage applications. This task requires precision, diligence, and a creative approach. The candidate will conduct laboratory experiments on research projects within well-defined guidelines; gather and analyze results and scientific literature; summarize and present data to the team; ensure the good operation of equipment and assist the team regarding safety requirements.

Requirements:
• Master’s degree or PhD in chemistry.
• First experience (1-3 years) in battery technology and relevant laboratory techniques, including in glove box environment.
• Experience working with hazardous chemicals (powders, organics, acids/bases, etc.).
• Experience with doctor blade coater, lithium-ion cell fabrication and evaluation, high-temperature furnaces, nitrogen gas adsorption, TGA, electron microscopy, and ball milling.
• Good reading, writing, and speaking comprehension of English.
• Communication and Teamwork: Good communication skills can foster a positive team environment.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
• Ability to work under tight deadlines and excellent time management.

Key Responsibilities:
• Contribute significantly in the lab – perform electrochemical and physical characterization experiments, improve existing characterization tools, and develop new tools on a need basis.
• Investigate slurry properties of Cathode Active Material (CAM) and Anode Active Material (AAM) and the corresponding electrode properties.
• Validate materials using lithium-ion Coin cell testing.
• Generate quality experimental results to inform data-driven decisions.
• Analyze battery test data, communicate results to the team, and suggest new pathways for development.
• Propose experimental plans for well-defined research projects.
• Take ownership of project outcomes and support the ideation of new projects for energy storage application
• Run a literature search
