MECHANICAL SUPERVISOR TANKS

Location: Stade, Lower Saxony, DE
Contract duration: 3 years+

Principal Job Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Supervision and Oversight
  • Supervise EPC Contractors: Oversee the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractors to ensure compliance with project specifications, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Quality Assurance: Monitor and ensure the quality of mechanical work performed by contractors, including welding, fabrication, installation, and testing of tanks.
  • Schedule Monitoring: Track and report on the progress of the work, ensuring that construction activities are completed on time.
 
  1. Technical Support
  • Technical Guidance: Provide technical support and guidance to EPC contractors on mechanical engineering aspects, including the interpretation of drawings, specifications, and standards.
  • Problem Resolution: Identify and resolve mechanical issues and discrepancies during construction, coordinating with the design and engineering teams as necessary.
  • Review and approval of EPC Contractor claims and Variation Orders.
 
  1. Compliance and Standards
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that all mechanical construction activities comply with German and EU regulations, as well as international standards relevant to LNG projects.
  • Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) Compliance: Enforce HSE policies and procedures to maintain a safe working environment. Conduct safety audits and inspections regularly.
 
  1. Documentation and Reporting
  • Documentation Review: Review and approve mechanical design documents, drawings, and specifications provided by EPC contractors.
  • Reporting: Prepare and submit regular reports on the status of mechanical works, including progress, quality issues, and safety observations.
 
  1. Coordination and Communication
  • Interface Management: Act as a liaison between the Owner’s Engineer team, EPC contractors, and other stakeholders, ensuring smooth communication and coordination.
  • Meetings: Attend and contribute to site meetings, project progress reviews, and technical discussions.
 
  1. Commissioning and Start-Up
  • Pre-commissioning and Commissioning: Oversee pre-commissioning and commissioning activities for mechanical systems associated with the tanks, ensuring they are carried out according to plan and specifications.
  • Punch List Management: Identify and manage punch list items to ensure all deficiencies are corrected before final acceptance.
 
  1. Training and Handover
  • Training: Assist in the training of operations and maintenance staff as needed, ensuring they understand the mechanical aspects of the tanks and related equipment.
  • Handover Documentation: Ensure that all mechanical documentation is complete and handed over to the operations team, including as-built drawings, manuals, and maintenance records.


 
  1. Continuous Improvement
  • Lessons Learned: Document and share lessons learned from the project to improve future project execution and design processes.

Skills and Qualifications
Educational Background: Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
Experience: Significant experience in the construction and mechanical supervision of large-scale LNG tanks or similar infrastructure.
Certifications: Relevant certifications in welding, NDT (Non-Destructive Testing), and other mechanical aspects, along with safety training (e.g., HSE certifications).
Knowledge: Familiarity with LNG processes, German and international engineering standards, and regulations.
Communication Skills: Strong communication skills in both English and German, if possible, for effective coordination and reporting.

This role is crucial for ensuring that the LNG tank construction is executed safely, on time, and to the highest quality standards. The Mechanical Supervisor acts as the owner's representative, ensuring that the project's integrity and specifications are maintained throughout the construction phase.

Additional Requirements
  • Experience in the construction and mechanical supervision of large-scale LNG tanks or similar infrastructure is a MUST
  • Fluent in English language (mandatory)
  • Fluent in German language (mandatory)
